A Distinctive Landscape
The Blackdown Hills AONB is an unspoiled rural landscape with a tranquil, remote feel. Elevated, windswept plateau and ridges with straight roads lined with beech, give way to steep wooded escarpments and broad deep valleys farmed mostly as pasture. Its distinctive appearance owes much to the underlying geology and long history of agricultural settlements. Scattered isolated farms, hamlets and villages nestle within valleys connected by quiet country lanes bounded by hedgebanks, all set within a patchwork of fields.
